Just a decade ago, Universal Studios was giving the green light to The Wolfman, a horror with Benicio Del Toro as the man who turns into a werewolf after being bitten by a wolf. Now that this classic subject is in the spotlight again, and Ryan Gosling has already been convinced to play the lead role.
Variety announces the project, quoted by Slashfilm, stating that Universal has not yet clapped with a director. Among those considered is Cory Finley, known for Bad Education, the latest feature film starring Hugh Jackman.
The most interesting aspect of the new Werewolf is that it resurrects the classic story, but brings it to the present and combines the supernatural aspect with the narrative thread of the film Nightcrawler, where Jake Gyllenhaal plays a sociopath filming accidents and crimes in Los Angeles, after which sell the footage to televisions. It’s unclear how this mix of elements will work, but the fact that Universal is updating the classic story is encouraging.
