Spotify launches its own gala, based on streaming data flow


“Your songs and habits will determine the categories of awards, finalists, and Spotify award winners, providing a true reflection of what your fans are listening to,” the company said Friday. “You will be delighted by a ceremony that actually speaks to what people are listening to in the online environment.”

The purpose of the Spotify Awards is a transparent one: The company wants to encourage fans to vote based on what they are listening to, listening to as much music on the platform as possible.

The first Spotify gala will be held in March in Mexico City.

According to Spotify, Mexico City is the largest market, with more listeners than other major areas such as New York, Los Angeles, London, and Paris. Spotify launched in Mexico in 2013.

In the third quarter of the year, the total number of monthly users of Spotify increased by 30%, reaching 248 million.
