25-year-old Canadian singer Justin Bieber announced on Wednesday that he was diagnosed with Lyme disease.
“It’s been a tough few years,” Bieber wrote on his Instagram account followed by 124 million users. He said he was aware that social media speculated that he would have drug problems, after several photos of him looking bad, with spots on his skin appeared, but people “didn’t realize that I was recently diagnosed with Lyme ”.
Bieber added that he also suffered from a viral infection, which affected his “skin, brain functioning, energy, and general health.”
The singer said he is receiving “the right treatment” to fight the disease and that more details will be revealed in the YouTube documentary about his life, to be released.
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused by ticks. Hives, muscle aches and fatigue are among the symptoms that usually occur 3 weeks after the itching. The disease is not communicable.
Most people who undergo a three-week antibiotic treatment recover completely, but in some cases, the symptoms appear over several years. There is no default treatment.
