Latin Grammy 2019 – Rosalia, Alejandro Sanz, Camila Cabello, Pedro Capó, Bad Bunny and Juan Luis Guerra, among the big winners of the gala


Rosalia’s 2018 album “El Mal Querer” won in the “Album of the Year”, “Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album”, “Best Engineered Album” and “Best Recording Package” categories.

Cuban soloist Camila Cabello and Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz were awarded the “Record of the Year” and “Best Pop Song” categories for their collaboration this year with “Mi Persona Favorita”. Cabello was not present at the ceremony.

Dominican artist Juan Luis Guerra won “Best Contemporary / Tropical Fusion Album” for “Literal” and “Best Tropical Song” for the single “Kitipun”.

Pedro Capó won “Song of the Year” with “Calma”. His remix with Farruko was designated “Best Urban Fusion Performance”.

R&B singer Miguel presented at the gala a fragment from “Show Me Love”, an English duet with Alicia Keys.

Chilean artist Mon Laferte won the “Best Alternative Album” trophy for “Norma”.

On the red carpet, she protested and appeared topless, wearing a green scarf – in support of legalizing abortion – writing on her chest the message: “In Chile, they torture, rape and kill.”

During the speech, she read a Chilean poem written by an anonymous friend, dedicated to those who resist the governmental repression in Chile. “Chile hurts,” she read. “You bleed me through every vein / Each chain presses me / Prisons you.” On the red carpet, she appeared with a message written on her chest:

“X 100pre” by the Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny was nominated for “Best Urban Music Album”.

This year, the Colombian Juanes received the distinction of Person of the Year, recognizing his musical achievements and efforts for humanitarian purposes. The trophy was presented to him by Lars Ulrich.

The hosts of the evening were Ricky Martin, Roselyn Sánchez, and Paz Vega.

The Academy has 3,500 voting members, who have chosen the winners of the 50 categories.
