An earthquake of 7.3 magnitude occurred off the coast of Peru



According to the USGS US Geosynthesis Institute, the earthquake occurred at a depth of about 12 kilometers.Two people died, 20 were injured and another 17 people were missing after the collapse of a mine.The quake was felt to the capital city Lima.The epicenter was located at 31 kilometers southeast of Acari, a Pacific coastal settlement located in the Arequipa region, about 500 kilometers south of the country.

The Peruvian marina announced that it has not issued a tsunami alert.The Pacific tsunami alert center, whose headquarters are located in Hawaii, eliminated the risk for the countries of the region, the quake was felt also in the northern of Chile.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, “there may be tsunami-like dangerous waves in coastal regions 300 kilometers from the seismic epicenter.”
