Elba made his first visit to the country this week. The fact that he received the citizenship represents for him “the greatest honor I could receive from my country,” he said in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone.
“I am no longer a foreigner from Africa: I have been to Africa, I have made films in Africa, but with Sierra Leone, it is a different feeling because it is the home of my parents.”
Idris Elba was born in London on September 6, 1972. His father grew up in Sierra Leone, and his mother is originally from Ghana.
The actor, named last year by People magazine “the sexiest man in life”, is ready to invest in Sierra Leone for tourism development.
“America or England cannot accommodate my ambition. Africa can. I can create a new Disney here and I can’t do that in America. ” He added that he wants to rebuild the country, believing that the entertainment industry here has the potential to tell the stories of the entire world.
Sierra Leone was marked by the civil war that began in 1991 and ended in 2002. Between 2014 and 2016, about 4,000 people died here because of an Ebola epidemic.
